Tae Kwon Do FAQ
Q: What is Tae Kwon Do?
Tae Kwon Do is the general name applied to the
Korean art of self-defence. 'Tae' refers to the foot,
'Kwon' to the hand, and 'do' is the art or way.
More so, it is a philosophy of constant
self-improvement developed through specific
martial arts training. It is a system of developing
the total person mentally, physically, and
spiritually.
Physically - The individual learns specific defence
skills as they develop muscle, good coordination,
balance, and cardiovascular health.
Mentally - Self-confidence, discipline, focus, and
perseverance are honed through our training
methods.
Spiritually - By the spirit we mean development of
character or the indomitable spirit, to face a
challenge with action and a constructive attitude.
One must learn to commit to a worthwhile goal
and see it through to the end.
Q: Who can learn Tae Kwon Do?
Anyone over 5 years of age, regardless of gender,
can begin learning Tae Kwon Do in our regular
classes.
Q: Isn't Tae Kwon Do dangerous?
Not really. Our activities are as safe, or safer, than
any other physical activity. Under strict discipline
and careful supervision our training is designed to
protect you when instructions are followed.
The World Taekwondo Federation is
the International Federation [IF]
governing the sport of Taekwondo and
is a member of the Association of
Summer Olympic International
Federations [ASOIF]. The WTF
recognizes national Taekwondo
governing bodies recognized by the
NOC in the pertinent country, one in
each country, as its members.
